The artist has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the trust for venues, which works to save the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

Fender was presented with the award on October 16 as his latest record his work was named the outstanding release of the past year.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The donation helped spaces that were facing possible closure due to issues caused by floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that funds from performances in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his award funds to worthy causes.

When the band earned the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would contribute their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

That year, artist she shared her award among several good causes, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she shared with the media.

In recent years, they gave their funds to the community center that developed their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners M People contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked vocalist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved several grassroots venues in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

One venue in the city and The Croft in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
